In previous years, the only chocolate versions of Peeps were available exclusively during Halloween. Last year, we saw flavor injected into the Peeps candies via strawberry, orange, and vanilla eggs. This year, a special tray of chocolate coated bunnies have stepped up to the plate and they're ready to hit one out of the park. These new Cocoa Bunnies are giving their unflavored counterparts a run for their money. Certainly they can't replace the normal milk chocolate bunnies that are synonymous with Easter. However, they offer a lighter tone of chocolate flavor to the candy basket. Not all grocery stores have picked up on the Cocoa Bunnies, but the ones that do are running out quickly. They're too cute and too delicious to resist.
Chocolate isn't just coated on the outside of the bunny, the marshmallow itself has a chocolate flavoring to it. It tastes like hot chocolate with marshmallows all wrapped up in a tiny rabbit-shaped package. They're particularly delectable when microwaved and can easily make their way into lots of dessert recipes for a fun Easter flare. I bet they'd be a perfect replacement for plain marshmallows in Rice Krispies squares.
