Red is the color of passion. The color of desire, intrigue, rage, and now it's also the color of Peeps at Target. This year Target struck a deal with Just Born for the exclusive rights to Red Peeps. Between Peeps and Jones Soda I spent $28.96 at Target in one shot. And yes, they do carry a fun variety of Peeps items in the Easter section. Now if I could find some sort of Target Exclusive Jones Soda flavored like red Peeps, I'd be all set.
The box suggests you decorate your cupcakes with Peeps as cupcakes themselves are not sugar-laden enough. I don't see much of a point to this as it's physically impossible to bite out of a Peep and a cupcake in the same bite. You'd inevitably wind up eating the Peep and then the cupcake. The best plan would be to make a Peeps cakepan. Then you can just eat Peeps-shaped cake. Though I must admit, they do look mighty cute on cupcakes.
There's one more fun Peep thing that was completely missed this year and I managed to find at a department store candy shop. Just Born is missing a big opportunity with this one, but a lot of independent candy stores like Asher's Chocolates of Pennsylvania have enough gusto to produce.
Chocolate dipped Peeps. From the neck-down these little chicks are coated in milk chocolate suits. They taste amazing, and now that I think of it, you'd only need these babies and some graham crackers to make yourself a mighty fine Peeps S'More. It's amazing to think that just a little chocolate can triple the price of a Peep. Sure you could just eat your Chocolate Egg with the Peep at the same time, but trust me, it's just not as good as when they're coated in chocolate. -Mystie
