I know I've said this a million times, but I live just outside Outlet City, USA. There's outlets here for everything. For a brief period there was even a TastyKake outlet across from JCPenney outlet. And yes, we even have outlets for food. One of them, namely Buy Rite Liquidators, I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole as most of the merchandise is beaten to all hell and possibly crawling with vermin. Any place that sells bargain bags of miscellaneous condoms is a place I try to avoid.
Amelia's Grocery Outlet is different. Maybe it's because it doesn't present itself as a festering cesspool. Maybe it's because one of the cashiers there is the underclassman I used to site next to and chat with through a lot of my art classes in high school. Or maybe it's because I can always count on them to have a fresh stock of Hulless Corn Puffs.
I know they're mainly comprised of packing peanuts covered in powdered cheese, but god damn I hate picking popcorn kernels out of my teeth.
Even though the TastyKake outlet here closed, Amelia's always has a display of discount KandyKakes and Krimpies. Mmmm... Kreme.
Of course I'm not writing this to talk just about snack food. I'm writing because I went in to Amelia's in late January to play a fun little game. A game I call "Count the Post-Christmas Halloween Leftovers"
Ooh! There's one already! Reese's Pumpkins. Around Easter time I would KILL for packs of Reese's Peanut Butter eggs. Thankfully Reese's has started reshaping them for every holiday you can think of, and I no longer need to shed blood to get my peanut butter and chocolate fix. I'm crossing my fingers for a Reese's Shamrock come March.
Halloween cookies. Notice that these cookies are shaped like demented Giggles cookies tops. It's like someone crossbread Giggles and Madballs. At least they have the balls to call them "Halloween Cookies" and not "Fall Festival Celebration Cookies."
Jackpot! Leftover Halloween Lucky Charms. The regular grocery store may have Limited Edition items in stock for a month or two, but thank goodness for close-out store that get enough overstock of these items to sell them for 2 more years.
A cornocopea of creepy crunchies. Luck Charms, Trix, Cocoa Crispies, and Fruit Loops all decked out for Halloween. My guess is they'll still be there come Valentine's.
